We hear it a lot.  We hear all sorts of excuses:

"Hey, that's great that you are raising money for Type One Diabetes, I know someone that lives with that disease, but I just don't think I could ride a bike that far..."

"I'd do the ride if I could take my motorbike, but there is no way I could pedal that far..."

"You guys are crazy, that's way too much biking, I'm not in as good of shape as I used to be..."

Good news people - you can do it and we will help you achieve this goal!

Couch to Tour Training

In partnership with the Blizzard Bicycle Club (BBC), we will be offering to all perspective Tour of the Peace riders the opportunity to do two training rides a week with the club. These would be club sponsored rides, so you have to be a Blizzard member to ride.  With membership you are also able to join in on over 100 different races and events over the course of the year.

Blizzard member ships can be obtained here:

Wednesday Night Coach Rides

Starting in May we will be hosting through the Blizzard Bike Club a Wednesday night coach ride.  We will meet at the Northern Lights College parking lot at 7 pm and from there take a short tour around the area at a slow to moderate pace depending on the level of the riders.  This ride will be restricted to one hour so the distance will depend on the pace.  During this ride volunteer coaches will provide training in many aspects of cycling such as: what to wear and how to set up your bike, rules of the road, riding in a pace line, drafting, ride etiquette, where to ride.  Bring your membership, your bike, a helmet, some water and all your questions!

Saturday Croissant Ride

Tying into the existing Blizzard rides, this ride is held every Saturday at 10 am from Baked on 100th Avenue and distance and destination is up to the riders.  It is meant to be a moderate pace and the goal is to get in 60 kms, but we will be sure to wear people in as they get comfortable.  These longer distance rides help the riders to get comfortable with putting on some kilometres, as well as how much water and food is needed to fuel your body over these distances.  Bring your bike, helmet, two water bottles, food and a repair kit, including air pump and spare tubes!
